Fall of Shame / Wall of Maim

Fall of Shame / Wall of Maim is an installation by Tess Elliot, situated visually within the vernacular aesthetic of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, that looks closely at one incidental Hall of Famer inducted in 2013, Warren Sapp. The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH, a premiere site of pilgrimage for fans, is a highly orchestrated archive with a mission to “honor the heroes, preserve the history, promote the values, and celebrate the greatness” of the game. Enshrined in the monument are collections of memorabilia, facts, figures, championship relics, bronze busts, epic soundscapes, and lavish high-end displays honoring the men of the National Football League. Focused on the comical, controversial, and complicated rise and fall of this "legend", Fall of Shame / Wall of Maim intends to scrutinize the traditional narrative of a "hero’s journey" and question the values of violent, self-righteous masculinity.
